9 Tips for Back to School Shopping Stress Free

If you are looking for a few stress free ways of getting the kids prepared for back to school that is what you will find here.

With school starting today I have time to sit and sip on my coffee while I reflect over the past three weeks. With the mad dash to get school supplies and new clothes ready for the big first day back to school I learned through trial and error a few new tricks for next year. Not so much on the big money saving tips but rather more for the stress free way to handle all the woes that come the couple of weeks prior to school starting.

1. Never shop on tax free weekend! - I find the stores are overloaded with customers and not enough product for the day of sale. Here is my suggestion, to alleviate you from the long lines and to avoid the rude competition sometimes, shop extra early for and place the items in lay away to pick up on tax free weekend if you dare! This way you still get the savings and the items you want. I like this way however I still sometimes just purchase right away rather than lay away to avoid the stress of tax free weekend.

2. Shop Online! - No lines, dozens of stores to choose from, the kids enjoy being able to pick what items they want at a computer rather than in a store, sometimes free shipping and you don't have to leave the comfort of your home. Also check with your child's school, some schools offer prepackaged supplies that can be ordered online from places like epipacks.com where you will need to enter a school ID. Think of the gas you saved and how stress free this way of shopping is. Just think you can sip on your coffee and not have to change out of your PJ's if you don't want to.

3. Shop for one child at a time! - Remember when you were a kid and 30 minutes felt like 3 hours! This has not changed, kids are impatient and it's natural. To avoid the misbehavior of multiple children take one child at a time to shop for a few items. There's no complaining, whining or fighting, your blood pressure won't go up and your level of stress will be minimal depending on how picky our kids can be.

4. Shop for supplies in your home first! - Collect what items you already have around the home and cross them off your lists. This not only saves you money but also time spent at stores shopping for items you have lying around at home readily available.

5. Don't wait till the last minute! - The stores will run out of specific supplies that may be on your list. You don't want to get all stressed out over not being able to find graph paper, 3 ring pencil keepers or glue sticks.

6. Don't try to get all your shopping done in one day! - Shopping for a couple of hours a day is more than enough to get several items crossed off your lists and to avoid the stress from being in crowded stores. This is just enough time to keep those short tempers in check and your goal on saving money if you wish.

7. Shop from 6am - 10am & 8pm - Closing if possible on weekdays and weekends! - Peak times for school shopping are between 10am & 8pm any day of the week! Just like going to the first showing of the day for a movie and having the theater almost all to yourself, you will practically have the stores to yourself between these times if you don't mind employees vacuuming or buffing the floors which to me is the lesser evil of big crowds & long lines.

8. Plan to eat out or order in! - While everyone else is shopping you could be enjoying a nice meal at a restaurant or at home and go shopping later. You don't want to be stuck in a long line at the check out and be stressing about having to go home and cook dinner too! Avoiding the mad rush and enjoying a meal will definitely keep the stress levels down.

9. Shop in late September, early October! - The deep discounts come around this part of the year  for school clothes and supplies. Stock up on your basic supplies to cross off your lists for the next year. For school uniforms and other clothes buy 1 or 2 sizes up! Less Shopping, Money Saved & Less Stress for next year equals a Happy You!

Movie Madness!

I spent this past weekend watching movies from old westerns to a couple of box office hits.  I have to say I'm not thrilled with the cost to see a movie anymore.

Lets start from the beginning. At home you have a choice of flipping thru the channels to see what's on or coming on, you can watch it whenever you want thanks to DVR and or you can go OnDemand or pay per view and rent at an outrageous rate of upwards to $6.99! Also just to watch your regular  channels you must have the digital converter boxes which some services require you to pay a fee of $2.00 or more per month depending on your service provider and the cable package you choose per month can be quite costly. I  know what you're thinking that's not bad, however you still have other options.

You can go the Blockbuster or Netflix routes at a cost of $8 or more a month depending on if you opt to go with streaming movies only to mail in DVD's or both. You have all the newest and latest technologies of I-Tunes, Amazon etc. to watch on your phones, iPods & iPads etc. as long as you pay for a data plan. You have the Redbox option of $1 per rental per day which I have found myself doing more & more lately for DVD new releases. The last option to see a movie has become an event in itself. Going to the Theater!

For a family of 5 just to see a movie runs about $50! That's more than what I expect to pay for a nice sit down dinner at the local Mexican resteraunt. If you add the common luxuries of Popcorn, fountain drinks & candy that can cost you more than it cost to see the movie itself! A regular box of candy runs $3.00 by itself. A small popcorn is $4.75, a small drink is $3.75 for that same family of 5 to have a small drink, popcorn and candy each the cost is $ 57.50 A ridiculous price for snacks and a drink, driving up the cost of a night out with the family for entertainment to well over $100 for 1 movie. That same family of 5 can eat a nice meal at Red Lobster for over $25 less!

In May of this year a consumer in Michigan actually filed a lawsuit against AMC theaters for these outrageous mark ups placed on food products. As sympathetic as I am to this man in the end nothing will change because there is no law against it. I seriously suggest to you all who like to see a good movie when it comes out at theaters to eat before you go and try the matinee times to save yourself the most money for a simple 2 1/2 hours of entertainment with the family.

Is it possible that Evil is a Contagion?

Could someone be touched by evil and be affected by it later in life? We know there are diseases that are considered contagions that are passed by contact or indirect contact, so is it possible for someone's fate to be affected the same way by coming into contact or indirect contact with evil?

In some cases it would certainly seem so.

In 1985 a woman commits suicide by putting two bullets into her brain. Janice Self, 27, who shot herself Feb. 25 in Delbert Bryan's bedroom. Police said Delbert was questioned at that time but passed a lie detector test and the medical examiner ruled the death a suicide.

Six months later Aug. 19 Delbert L. Bryan, 33, Audelia Davis, 19, and Tammy L. Wright, 22, were found shot to death in Bryan's north Houston apartment. The nude bodies of Audelia Davis and Tammy L. Wright were found in the bathroom. Both had been shot in the head. The body of Delbert L. Bryan was found on the floor of the livingroom in the ransacked apartment. He, too, had been shot in the head. The 2-year-old daughter of Tammy Wright was alone in the apartment for hours before police found the bodies. They found the little girl Jennifer uninjured with red stains on her extremities from walking around the bloody crime scene, hungry and wearing a dirty diaper.

Only a few days before Tammy died in August 1985, she called her father and told him she was leaving her boyfriend, telling him he'd been abusive. Tammy's parents Charlie and Norma asked her to come stay with them. Tammy, known to be tough and independent, seemed to want to handle the situation on her own. She told them she'd go to a friend's home and that she might come over in a few days. Family members recall that Tammy's boyfriend may have attempted to break in to the friend's home where she was staying, landing him in jail and later eliminating him as a suspect in her death.

This case remains unsolved. Police need public's help Anyone with information about Tammy Wright's 1985 murder is urged to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.

Police said Janice Self's death and the triple slaying are not connected.

Almost 27 years later on May 19, 2012, police discovered now-28-year-old Jennifer McKinley daughter of Tammy L.Wright murdered in her Kingwood apartment. Investigators would later tell the family that McKinley's 8-year-old son Ben was home during the killing. The boy was asleep in his bedroom not knowing that his mother lay dead, strangled and beaten by her longtime live in boyfriend, in another bedroom of their apartment.

After leaving work on Friday, Erick Erminger went with a friend to a bar off U.S. 59 and Greens Road, where he played pool and drank beer. Erminger became inebriated and called his girlfriend Jennifer to pick him up. The couple drove home, and McKinley tucked her son into bed. Then McKinley joined Erminger in their bedroom, where they argued during that time he subsequently killed her. Erminger told police that he went back to bed and woke up around 9 a.m. to find Jennifer dead.

In the morning, Erminger called his mother and confessed to killing McKinley. He also allegedly threatened suicide. The mother called the authorities and when police arrived, Jennifer's body was on her bedroom floor, on a makeshift pallet with blankets and a pillow, as if she were still sleeping.

Police took Erminger in for questioning. Erminger claims some kind of alcoholic amnesia. He claims he doesn’t remember what about or why they were arguing, but he says, "Yeah, I killed her." Medical examiners determined she died from strangulation and blunt force trauma. On her arms, they also found older bruises that were determined to be caused by Erminger during a previous argument.

Family members say Erminger was physically and emotionally abusive toward Jennifer during their four-year relationship. Friends and family who knew of the abuse pleaded with Jennifer to leave him several times before.

None of these cases are directly related however they are indirectly as all of the victims had been connected to each prior victim. Is it possible that evil had marked them to visit them at a later date when they were in the presence of an evil act in the past and escaped death? As relative as they are they are not meant for entertainment purposes but they do beg the question is evil a contagion to fate? Cases similar to this are out there and could even be the inspiration for the "Final Destination" films.

I don't know if there is any underlying factor that may connect victims by evil encounters. There is certainly no evidence supporting this thought. What I do know is that I have a personal connection to one of the victims and by writing this post I am taking a step in the direction of acceptance of my friends untimely death. In this way I am beginning my journey to heal by sharing my thoughts of this experience. My only hope is to help others who knew these victims to heal as well as asking those who did not know them to never let them be forgotten.
